We Hate Pink Interviews | Selin Özünaldım - HeForShe, Turkey

by Rossella Forlè

In this interview I talk to Selin Özünaldım, 17-year-old activist from Istanbul.

Selin is the youngest representative of UNWomen’s global gender equality movement called HeForShe in Turkey. As a HeForShe Champion, she inspired 180 thousand students around Turkey and her goal is to inspire the next generation.

She is also one of the 300 teenagers who were selected by the United Nations all around the world for Gender Youth Activists. She worked on the women's empowerment in the STEM and brought the Girls who Code movement to Turkey. She is also the founder of We Ground Zero, a video interview platform to inspire and empower Gen Z by listening to successful people who made a difference in the world.

In this interview, we talked about involving men in feminism and the meaning of intersectional feminism. Turkey’s shockingly high femicide rate and government efforts to roll back legislation designed to protect women from gender-based violence and the Istanbul Convention Action against violence against women and domestic violence. The power of sisterhood and the importance of women-only organisations.
